A question "Search" couldn't answer for me.
I really did try multiple searches to find my answer, but came up with zilch.
I just recently got back to playing GW again. And decided to give 600/Smite a try with a hero in UW to farm ectos, so I can build up the bank account again. Doing the run in NM is gravy. And for the most part it's easy in HM. My question is about the Smite crawlers. In HM, what is triggering them to flee like I was using AoE? It seems to take forever to kill them. Should I switch out Mantra of Recall in favor of a visage?
Or should I just forget about HM period, as all I care about are the ectos? Supposedly they are exempt from loot scaling.
One last thing. When did they add Grasping pop ups in addition to the Nightmares before taking the quest?
Thanx

umm depending on when you quit which sounds like back in 05ish they've added alot to UW. Dying Nightmares have rend enchants and will strip every enchant on your monk. You have to bring spell breaker, and learn there pops. Not too sure if the graspings were added, of if they've always been there. I started in 07. Umm you may have quit before they did the update on AI to flee from AoE? Thats why the smites are running away personally i bring my staff/spear and hit them to keep them attacking but watch for SoJ.
also just too add HM is always better for 600/smite faster attack speeds of enemies=more damage in less time.

there is no AoE with 600/smite when you have spell breaker...the damage comes per hit, which is why you want HM (faster attack speed) and AL15 starter armor to increase the number of hits....you can max the duration of spellbreaker with 12+3+1 in Divine Favor, and 12+3+1 in protection will max protective spirit as well....the 600 tank does not necessarily need 600 hp, I run mine with about 430hp or so, just watch spirit bond and recast upon removal which goes pretty quickly with mobs in HM UW. The nightmares will kill themselves trying to rend your enchantments so just be prepared with spellbreaker on before aggroing. The damage comes from your smiter (which is always a hero for me) through retribution and the other maintained ench's - which is why it's crucial to keep your hero flagged within your mini-map range. I made a video a couple of years ago which will give you the basics of UW HM 600/smiting in the chamber...you can go way beyond, but the video was intended to give the builds (which has slightly changed and did not include any pve skills which are out now available from EOTN such as finish him! and ebon vanguard assassin support) and the basic approach in UW

I beleive the "flee" that the OP is referring to is when the mob hits less than 50% health they retreat till healed if there is 3 or more (HM only), with meele there will only be 3 hitting you at a time. as was mentioned, wanding or hitting them with a staff will prevent that one from fleeing.

No. I stopped playing for most of 2008 to now. I'm pretty familiar with UW. So I knew all about AoE and such. I just never did much farming in Hard Mode.

Thanks. I thought I was going crazy. Graspings+Nightmares+Aataxes= Headaches if you're not careful.

This is what I was looking for. So in HM only they have a survival instinct? I overaggroed a bunch of Smites and it was a stalemate. No matter how many I wanded, they would break off to heal. So I just mapped out since I had already gotten an ecto drop.
So the wiki states that ectos are exempt from loot scaling. Has this ever been confirmed or denied? If the ecto drops just the same in NM, I'll go back to that for the farm.

Ecto drop rates aren't affected by the difficulty mode.

He beat me to it - you can help hinder the splitting by bodyblocking the foes - im sure theres a post somewhere that gave details on how to bodyblock and has a diagram - makes it easier to understand so may be a case of searching unless someone else knows the link.

The trick your refering to is simple just when you aggro mobs that are large drag there left(your right) side on a somewhat flat wall then take one little step off the wall, then let them attack the should flee but for 600/smite its kinda pointless because they still stop attacking to heal :P

I think ANET is serving up UW Pimp my ride style.
Yo dawg. I heard you liked pop ups. So we hooked you up with pop ups in your pop ups. So you can fight pop ups while you're fighting pop ups.
Must have been a glitch, but my hero smiter got jack from behind on pop ups I already popped up and killed. Was the freakiest thing ever.

there is no point to bodyblock/wallblock on 600/smite build: smiter damages enemies, who attack, not enemies around... bodiblock/wallblock works with skills like sliver armor/SS/area degen builds/area damage builds...
just don't overaggro melee enemies, and you will be fine...

So we have skeletons now. Which in and of itself isn't too bad with proper aggro control. So I'm trucking along cleared the wastes. Cleared most of the Chamber. While on my way to grab those two Aataxes near the Vale, some Mindblades pop up. WTF?
Are there any other items of interest I should be aware of? I try to farm up until the behemoths.
